Small white alabaster bowl by Rick Amon, with a bloodwood rim and walnut foot. Expertly assembled and turned on a lathe, this elegant piece is accompanied by a rustic white soapstone base which enhances the workmanship of the bowl. The white alabaster, also called “silver cloud,” is mined in Volterra Italy. The soap stone Rick uses is sourced from Afghanistan and Vermont. Rick carries on an ancient tradition of stone turning that started in 4000 BC with the Egyptians. Over time it became less prevalent, although it had a brief resurgence in the 1800s in Italy. Light a candle inside this delicate piece and it glows with a soft translucence, making it a perfect focal point for meditation, or simply as an accent piece to nurture peace, mindfulness and self care.
