As a potter, I am interested in making that which sustains us as human beings. My work is of the hand: clay pulled up on the wheel, stretched with a sponge, given the record of my fingers’ movement and finished with a stamp. I seek balance, richness of color and simplicity of form. For decoration I rely mostly on the surprises that result from the interaction of clay, my carefully developed glazes using glacial Exeter clay and applewood ash, and the kiln’s flame.
I host two community events each year, have a showroom in Exeter, and am an active member of the seacoast region farmer’s market network. I teach actively and work with apprentices.
