Oxidized sterling silver chain with handmade sterling silver pendant with Iron Furnace flag stone (“NH Turquoise”). Some porous inclusions are filled with gold mica powder and resin, making the slag look like the Japanese practice Kintsugi (filling cracks with gold).
Lucy’s note: This is a piece of slag from the stone stack in Franconia. It is the lovely by-product of the iron industry that supported our region 200 years ago. The slag was poured into the river and was polished as it tumbled over time. There was a similar industry in this area (Gilmanton Iron Works) so slag can probably be found there too!”
Pendant measures approximately 1/2 inch wide by 1 inch tall. Chain length is 18 inches.
