Large turned wood maple burl bowl by Steven Frye, featuring some exquisite figuring and an open knot. A burl is a growth or “tumor” on a tree, that juts out in an organic shape under the bark. Sought after by woodworkers for its dramatic figuring, burls often reveal large eyes, extremely unique spiraling patterns, and tiny dancing twirls in various colors within the cut. Sealed and waxed to a durable finish, this bowl makes a beautiful decorative piece of turned wood, but could also be used for salads if you don’t mind a few pieces slipping through the knot! The finish is food safe.
