As a photographer, I am drawn to the beauty and simplicity of things. A favorite poet of mine is the late Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda, whose book title, Ode to Common Things, seemed a title suitable for what my art represents. I find myself moved to capture something as simple as clothespins on a line, a salt and pepper shakers on an old kitchen table or a pen laid next a bottle of ink. My photography style speaks of warmth and coziness. There is a term, “hygge” (pronounced hoo’gah) that the Danish use to describe this: creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. Most of us know it when we experience it. It is what I hope to capture and convey with my art.
