Much like the philosophy of the Japanese Tea Ceremony, a beautiful pot encourages a person to slow down and notice the subtleties of the experience; the way the dish feels in the hand or against the mouth, the way it sounds against the spoon. In this way, I try to make pottery that enhances the presentation of a meal, elevating it to a greater sensual experience. I also create figurative sculpture, or Spirit Vessels. I use the female figure as a vessel, or shell, to express the soul’s immortality and humanity’s connection to the Earth. The shell is a defined space where the body meets its environment, invoking the concept of the fundamental transfer of energy between man and nature.

Made by Karissa Masse, these big round mugs are lightweight yet strong and comfortable to handle. Glazed in a delicate jade with a taffy-colored glaze running down through the carved lines in a controlled pattern. The glaze runs as it melts in the heat of the kiln, always leaving an element of surprise for the artist when she unloads the kiln after each firing. Wrap your hands around it and snuggle up. Perfect for a cup of tea or a nourishing bowl of soup. It’s sure to be one of the most comfortable mugs you’ve ever held, and it will quickly become the household favorite. Made with high temperature stoneware. Microwave and dishwasher friendly.
