Alyx is a bead-weaver who uses mostly seed beads and small (mostly Czech) glass beads in her work. She also uses textured metal in some of her designs. Most pieces are one-of-a-kind although some of them can be considered variations on a theme. She draws her inspiration from history, mythology, and natural history.

Using off-loom bead-weaving techniques appeals to Alyx because the time-consuming process inspires an ageless connection to beaders and bead-makers from many cultures and historical eras. Her background in anthropology, history, mythology/religious studies and folklore influences the ultimate form of each piece.
