My dialogue with clay is articulated in the functional vessel. Function is an important aspect for me because I like the idea of these pieces enriching everyday life. The vessel serves as a vehicle through which I can best interpret my ideas. I am influenced by my environment, the Green Mountains, where I live. This is reflected in the colorful earthtone glaze overlays I use. I work with clay because it is the most direct expressionistic medium I have ever encountered.
“I fire my work in a wood kiln because the process closely relates to the individual pieces. The fire goes through the pieces in the chamber and tells a surprising story each time.”
