Helen’s tapestries are inspired by the beauty and rhythms of the natural world. She intends for the weavings to be both acknowledgment as well as an archive of the plants and animals threatened by climate change. The weavings recognize the extraordinary worth of the natural world and offer a tangible ‘namaste’ to all living creatures.
Her tapestries begin with an image Helen sketches and then employs as a guide. Once the tapestry is begun on the loom, however, the magic and serendipitous nature of the art of weaving jumps off into abstraction, embellishment, deconstruction or whimsy.
