My pots are fired in two types of kilns at the New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester, NH. One is fueled by propane for glazed pots and is finished at the temperature of 2350 degrees and takes about fifteen hours. The second kiln is fueled by wood. The pots go in unglazed and the firing lasts sixty-six hours or more at 2450 degrees. This amount of time allows atmospheric wood ash to fuse with the clay surface in a way that creates a glaze-like, irregular decorative effect. This process is labor and time intensive but is done for the beautiful natural look these pots possess. I began making pots in high school and fell in love with the process.
