I have been a juried member of the League since 1982. The primary focus of my work is the translucent wood lampshades that I have been making since 1990. They provide a way of seeing wood that is unique and dramatic, and simultaneously functional, relaxing and romantic, The shades are turned on a lathe, all of the carving and finishing is controlled by hand and eye. Each shade is designed to best display the natural grain patterns and colors in the wood as it comes to me. I use exclusively Aspen for the shades, starting with sections of logs that can weigh as much as 200 pounds, and end up with less than a pound.
