Since moving to New Hampshire in 1987 Steve and Maureen operated a pottery studio at Strawbery Banke Museum until 2014 giving daily demonstrations to museum visitors while developing their individual pottery styles. Their functional stoneware bridges Old World traditions with a contemporary sensibility, melding design traditions from Europe and Asia with their own aesthetic styles. While Steve’s work is fired in a gas kiln where he uses glaze to enhance the surface, Maureen explores wood firing, where fire and ash develop an enigmatic surface rich in color and texture. Today they continue to work together in their Portsmouth NH studio, teaching classes and workshops around the region.
