All of my Sailor’s Valentines are influenced by my years of floral designing, gardening and my love of sea shells. A Sailor’s Valentine is an 8 sided box filled with intricate patterns and flowers crafted of sea shells and then covered with glass. They originated in Barbados between 1830-1880. Sailors from American and English ships stopping to port bought them as tokens of love and affection to give to wives, daughters and sweethearts after being away at sea. I craft my Valentines with shells from all over the world and use the finest hand made boxes. Sailor’s Valentines are highly collectible and adorn homes all over the world.
