I used to fight against being labelled as an artist. I preferred being called a woodworker because woodworkers make useful things. Grudgingly I have come to accept that I am more artist than woodworker. I feel my best attributes are creativity and patience. I prefer to work with an improvisational approach. I get my enjoyment from discovering how the piece works out and I feel I am at my most creative in the middle of the project. I sometimes refer to my work as the war against straight lines and flat surfaces.
