Beautiful ceramic lidded treasure box with grey and yellow shino glaze by Andy Hampton. Shino, is a traditional Japanese glaze with a semi-matte finish that ranges in color from yellow and orange to grey and white. Fired on a white stoneware clay, this shino glaze has some wonderful variety of color and speckling. The location within the kiln during the firing and proximity to the burner flames partially determines if the glaze is tinted more grey or yellow in color. A decorative art piece or a special place to hide treasures. Quiet in nature, with good functionality, and a strong Japanese aesthetic, Andy’s pottery reminds us to mindfully enjoy the simple things in life.
