This dreamy encaustic piece by Nancy E. Adams captures a tiny house perched on the shoreline of Choate Island. Soft blues and earthy golds and greens give it a nostalgic, almost dreamy feel.
Each of Nancy’s encaustic ‘paintings’ begins life as a white piece of cotton fabric. Fiber reactive dyes are applied to the fabric and the resulting ‘landscape’ is glued to a wood panel. To prepare the encaustic medium, she melts together beeswax and damar resin – a hardening and stabilizing agent. Once cooled, this mixture is then reheated to approximately 225 degrees F and applied to the fabric surface. As the wax cools, it is smoothed and manipulated to create interesting textures. Paintings also contain her original photographic images printed on Japanese paper which are embedded into the wax surface. Additional encaustic medium completes the process. Following light hand buffing, the piece is placed into a wood floating frame to create a wonderfully luminescent painting.
“Choate Island” measures 9.5″ x 7.5″ and comes with hanging hardware.
