Wide earthy hand-built mug with leaf impressions by Shana Brautigam, made by forming clay with the pinch-pot process. Shana fires her rustic pottery in an outdoor wood-fired kiln, built using old electric kilns! The kiln is fired with branches from the woods and scrap wood from local businesses. Firing with wood, the flames travel throughout the kiln, touching each pot and creating a range of beautiful earth tones and surface effects. Near the end of the firing, she blows soda ash into the kiln, which vaporizes immediately and glazes any surfaces it touches with unique effects. This particular mug got a strong blast of soda ash, as can be seen on the white-grey side. Glazed on the interior with a luscious brown glaze, this mug is sure to be come a favorite for any nature lover.
