As an art form off-loom bead-weaving has appealed to Alyx because the time-consuming process inspires an ageless connection to beaders and bead-makers from many cultures and historical eras. Her background in anthropology, history, mythology/religious studies and folklore influences the ultimate form of each piece. Her work has been shown internationally and published in beading magazines. For many years she served as a member of a design team sponsored by a leading manufacturer of Czech glass beads. She also has written two books about bead-weaving: one on designing jewelry with hand-woven components and another on stitching holiday ornaments.
