I work in leather because it remembers. A carved line becomes part of the material, while use adds another history—darkening where it is held, softening where it bends, and acquiring the marks of its owner.
I use traditional carving and hand-tooling techniques to create functional, contemporary pieces meant to be used, maintained, and repaired rather than replaced. The marks I make are only the beginning.
When a piece leaves my hands, I do not consider it finished. I establish its form, function, and imagery. Its owner—and time—complete the work.
My goal is to make objects worthy of acquiring a history.
