Judith Copeland

Juried Member Since 2003

Judy creates colorful fused glass tableware and buttons that are inspired by the structure and surface design of textiles. She uses batik tools to create patterned dichroic glass accents, which add silky shimmer to her pieces. “I had a glass infused childhood. My grandmother filled her window sills with cranberry glass. My father collected interesting bottles, and I hoarded beach glass.” Judy began working with glass when she was unable to find buttons for a vest she had spun and knit. Resigned to making her own buttons, she enrolled in a fusing class. She knew that she had found her medium and has been honing her craft and developing her own techniques since.
