My muse as a percussionist and artist is the tambourine. For me, the tambourine is a fascinating instrument, with a diverse range of presentations and musical applications across the globe. Numerous traditional/folk music cultures have created singularly unique and expressive musical voices by combining wood, leather, and metal; Each visually and sonically distinct from one another (some wildly so), while collectively categorized as “tambourines”. The drums I build are inspired by traditional instruments I’ve owned, played, or had the opportunity to study in my travels and experiences as a musician, combining my preferred design aspects to create comfortable, functional works of art.
