Rug braiding was one of the original “recycling” art forms. Frugal homemakers wanted to stop drafts, settle dust, and of course add beauty to their homes. By re-purposing torn clothing, blankets, and other used woven items that were beyond repair, practical and beautiful braided rugs were lovingly created.Wool is a wonderful fabric to work with; it has great texture, depth, and is naturally resilient. I especially love searching to find vintage fabric to use for my rugs. Working with different colors and various weights of fabric creates a rug, or other braided product, that is one of a kind.
