Jean Matray, of St. Johnsbury, VT, attributes her jewelry inspiration to George Rhoads’ Rolling Ball sculpture, 42nd Street Ballroom, in New York City’s Port Authority Bus Terminal. This audio-kinetic sculpture has been described as containing “every basic element of machinery, combined in a bewildering variety of ways.” Thus inspired, Jean’s jewelry combines movement and playfulness with patterns found in such varied sources as crop circles, electrical circuitry, and computer graphics. Her silver pins, neckpieces and earrings spin, twirl, wiggle and dangle. She says, “I hope those who wear this jewelry find a little joy and enjoy taking it for a spin.”
