Event Description:

Meredith, NH – Join us at the League of NH Craftsmen – Meredith Fine Craft Gallery on Sunday, October 27th, 2024 from 1pm to 3:30pm for a Printmaking Without a Press Class with artist Pam Smith. 

In this workshop, you will learn all aspects of the relief printmaking process using one block, create a unique hand-carved block print and bring home your own one-color original print, as well as the carved block to continue to print more on your own.

You’ll learn:  

  • how to transfer a sketch or design to a block (we’ll use Speedball softcut blocks for this class)  
  • about the various tools used in the printmaking process  
  • to carve printmaking blocks safely, smoothly, and effectively  
  • best practices for inking and printing on paper without a press

Materials supplied by instructor – Two 5 x 7 Softcut carving blocks;  Speedball carving tools to use in the classroom; Barrens and brayers to use in the classroom; printmaking inks (non-toxic, water clean-up); printmaking paper, vellum for transferring designs. 

Materials that students will need to bring – Please bring at least one simple sketch that you would like to try to turn into a block print. The size should be 4” x 6”. I will also have designs for you to choose from if you need some inspiration.

Tuition is $60 per student with a $15 materials fee paid cash or check to the instructor on the day of class.

About the artist:

Pam is a New Hampshire artist and printmaker. She is an avid gardener and her creative inspiration comes from the natural beauty all around us. Her work ranges from botanical relief prints and monoprints to whimsical collages and combines traditional printmaking, painting and mixed media. 
 
Pam’s original linocut prints and monoprints are designed, hand-carved, and hand-pressed by hand at Art Haven Studio in Enfield. She is an artist member of AVA Gallery, the Women’s Caucus for Art, NH, the Monotype Guild of New England, and the Women’s Rural Entrepreneurial Network (WREN) in Bethlehem, NH. She has recently exhibited her work at Twiggs Gallery in Boscawen, AVA Gallery, Artistree, The New Leaf Gallery in Keene, NH, the Library Arts Center in Newport, the Rochester Museum of Fine Arts and at Collective, and was a featured artist at the Art of Craft in beautiful Woodstock, VT. Pam was one of four women printmakers featured in Women In Print at WREN in March 2023.

Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Those who wish to take the class MUST sign up by Wednseday, October 23rd.
