Nuno Felted Sketch Book Cover

Course Description:

Students will create a unique, wrap-style book cover using luxury materials such as merino wool and silk fabric. This beginner-friendly wet felting class will take you through all the steps of wet felting wool, from laying out fiber, incorporating silk and yarn, rolling, and fulling the material to the correct dimensions to fit an A5 sized booklet. Basic sewing skills are helpful but not required.

Wet felting requires the physical ability to stand for long periods of time and mobility in the arms and shoulders. The materials fee includes enough wool, yarn, and silk to make one cover, full written instructions with photos, a blank notebook, and reusable rolling kits.

Materials Fee: $35 paid directly to the instructor on the day of the event. Space is limited to 6 students.

Double Up Your Fun : Adapting Rep Weave for the Rigid Heddle Loom

Course Description:

Rep weave is a highly textured, dense, warp faced weave used to create household textiles and bags. Rigid heddle looms are typically not used to weave dense, sturdy fabrics, but with simple tools and techniques, one can adapt “jamtlandsdrall” for the rigid heddle loom.

This is not an introductory class and is intended for weavers wishing to advance their skills. Students should have prior experience direct warping their looms.

In this workshop you will learn  and overview of reading a draft for rep weave and rep weave basics; weaving with 2 shuttles; splicing techniques;  interlocking wefts; finishing options, including hemming and clove hitch knots; tips for building a thick weft yarn; suggested tools that support this weaving structure; direct warping with doubled up warp ends.

Take aways include in-class textile and draft for a next project.

Students should bring the following to the workshop:

  • Fully assembled rigid heddle loom
  • 8 dent reed with at least 8″ of workable width
  • Threading hook
  • Warping pegs to support direct warping of loom
  • 2 stick shuttles
  • Tapestry needle
  • Measuring tape or ruler
  • pencil & notebook
  • Optional but please bring if you have these – ball winder for yarn; stand for your rigid heddle loom

Getting Reacquainted with the Art of Sewing

Medium: Fiber

Taught by: Joyce LeBlanc

Course Description:

Has it been awhile since you’ve sewn anything? Do you find yourself looking at beautiful handcrafted items and wonder how they achieve such results?

This workshop will allow you to  become reacquainted with your sewing machine as you revisit basic sewing techniques, the language of sewing and the correct tools to use – needles, threads, interfacing, fabrics, etc. to achieve greater sewing success. You will apply what you learn while making a simple bag. The focus will be on building confidence and belief that it is possible to achieve anything in sewing with some guidance and the right tools.

Along her sewing journey, Joyce has learned many tricks, shortcuts, tips, and creative ways to accomplish precision results and is eager to share them with you.

This workshop is for rusty advanced beginners or those who want to sharpen their intermediate skills. This workshop is not for beginners.

Students are asked to bring their own machines. If yours is not portable or you are “between” machines, contact us to discuss your options.
