Course Description:
Capture the essence, movement, and living energy of animals in this hands-on impressionistic sculpture workshop. Working with paper clay, your hands and minimal tools, we focus on gesture and presence rather than photographic detail — the sculptural equivalent of impressionist painting.
Students will explore bas-relief sculpting and three-dimensional animal forms, learning simple armature construction and developing an intuitive, tactile approach to clay. All levels welcome — beginners often thrive with this approach, and experienced artists find it liberating.
You’ll leave with finished or in-progress pieces and a new way of seeing and working with clay. Work can be fired if completed, but can also be displayed and even painted in its unfired form.
Materials Fee: $55 paid directly to the instructor on the day of the event. Space is limited to 10 students.
