"Stripes and Lavender" by Al Jaeger
Last year, in celebration of its 75th anniversary year, the League initiated a campaign to expand its Permanent Collection by another 75 pieces, and since that time, approximately 73 pieces have been acquired. An additional 12 pieces are awaiting review. The Permanent Collection now contains 269 representative pieces of quality work produced by over 80 past and present members of the League.
This exhibition features a variety of craft media, including fiber, mixed media, metal, pottery, jewelry, prints, baskets, glass, and wood. (See below for a list of the craftspeople whose work is on display in this exhibition.)
“The Permanent Collection is an evolving showcase for fine handcraft, with pieces that go back to the early days of the League and the American craft movement. We are committed to continuing this heritage for future generations,” said League Executive Director Susie Lowe-Stockwell. “The League is grateful to Nora and Norman Stevens, League supporting members and avid craft collectors, who spearheaded our recent campaign and donated many of the pieces in this exhibition.” Nora and Norman Stevens are members of the League’s Permanent Collection Advisory Committee, which also includes: Wesley Balla, Director of Exhibitions at the New Hampshire Historical Society; Edith Grodin, League member and craft collector; Andrew Spahr, Chief Curator at the Currier Museum; David Tardif, legal consultant and craft collector; Inge Eddy, League supporter and craft collector; and Gerry Williams, juried member emeritus and Lifetime Achievement Award recipient.
